Transport authority for Amsterdam region invests €235 million extra in public transport

1 October 2020

The Vervoerregio Amsterdam (Amsterdam region PTA) will make an extra €235 million available for, among other things, public transport in Amsterdam and the surrounding region. The extra millions will serve to redesign mobility in the region after the corona crisis, make public transport attractive again and stimulate the economy. This is done by investing in road safety and public transport projects, zero emission buses and off-peak travel.

The so-called 'corona package' consists of €30 million for investments in infrastructure (for 2021) and €205 million for sustainability, inclusiveness and rush-hour avoidance (2021 and beyond). A large part of this will go towards the transition to completely emission-free bus transport. This package, which has been submitted to the Regional Council, comes on top of the regular investments in mobility of approximately €130 million euros per year.
